Part ONE of the ORIGINS UNKNOWN Series. This novella leads into the stand-alone Full Novel Affliction.

During a scientific expedition into the Brazilian rainforest to study indigenous plants, diagnostician Rosie McKenna faces her most challenging medical mystery. A bizarre skin condition is spreading through Burton Pharmaceuticals’ team members. A condition she can’t diagnose.

As she struggles to save the patients inside a top-secret field hospital, she soon learns the scientific expedition is an orchestrated cover concealing something far more sinister than hungry jaguars prowling the dwindling jungle. Something, that if allowed to move beyond the forest and scorched and crater riddled earth—could possibly change the evolution of mankind.

Isolated and frightened, she doesn’t know whom to trust. Trevor, the career-driven botanist who wants to be more than just friends? Or Romas, the magnetic security expert who causes her to question her own sanity?

What reviewers are saying.

Deception drew me in from the beginning. It is a perfect prequel to what I am sure to be an amazing series. I love that it kept me interested and was so well written that I even felt what Rosie was feeling through out the book. I am definitely excited to read affliction and whatever books may come after.

Very intriguing. Made me want to read next in series.

The lush writing of this author is icing on the cake for this novella. There was enough intrigue to keep me from putting the story down before I finished it. You won’t want the story to end.
